Mitzi Nelson

Mitzi received her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Texas A&M University.  She then received a Master’s of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of North Texas.  Mitzi completed internships at Baylor Inpatient Rehabilitation and Denton Regional Hospital.  She has worked in a variety of settings including: outpatient medical, private practice, schools, and as a clinical supervisor for graduate students at UNT.  Mitzi participated in a joint program with UT Southwestern for medical students to learn about speech pathology by observing her therapy sessions.  Mitzi specializes in OMD (orofacial myofunctional disorders) completing over 80 hours in continuing education in OMD’s and is on the certification track to obtain her COM from the IOAM.  Mitzi loves to learn and is part of several research groups that include dentists, orthodontists, ENT’s, doctors, and other SLPs.  Early in her career, Mitzi joined a journal club at Scottish-Rite Hospital.  Mitzi is skilled in treating a variety of speech, language, phonological, and feeding disorders.  She is experienced with AAC devices (alternative/augmentative communication devices) and served on the Texas Speech-Language Hearing Association state convention planning committee for AAC.  Mitzi has been the invited guest speaker on a variety of topics at TSHA and across multiple stages in Texas.  Mitzi tells her clients that the reason they come to therapy is because “you have important things to say”.  Mitzi and her husband, Keith, have two children, Colt and Makenzi.  The Nelson family moved back to Woodson in November 2021 and are so excited to be living small town life in the area they love.
